A bit of history – PJF Services Ltd is an established commercial painting services company with a history dating back to the 1970’s when founder Phillip Fisher started out from trade school working for his father and tradesman painter C.D Fisher
Phillip J Fisher Painting & Decorating was formed in the late 70’s and the Canterbury based business serviced a loyal client base in the Body Corporate, Property management sector. Speed, reliability and quality were traits that established this loyal following and remain values in the brand that is now PJF Services Ltd today.

PJF is a nationwide company, every business has to have a HQ and ours is in NZ’s second largest city, Christchurch. Christchurch is the national hub of our operation and where daily operations, administration and sales activity takes place every day. From here we manage our teams and monitor activities no matter where they are. PJF have a great network of painting crews in key locations around NZ. Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, Wellington and all corners of the South Island are established with reliable teams and any outlying locations and lesser populated regions are catered for as well – no matter where you are we will make it happen. PJF have successfully completed work in Kaitaia in the Far North District and similarly in Invercargill in Southland. We’ve even been contracted to project manage painting services for a client in New Caladonia!
Our teams consist of employees and an established contractor base who subscribe to the PJF values and these are managed in turn by regional managers. All in all it is a solid network designed to deliver a complete service to our clients with a national property portfolio. One of our strengths is to project manage associated trades along with our own. A number of our clients engage PJF to include carpentry, carpet and signage etc in our tenders to minimise the liability and risk – especially with Health & Safety. We bundle all services under one Site Specific Safety plan and manage the individual contractors under our own operations team.
The client base we serve is centred in the Commercial market, we leave residential painting services to others preferring to focus our energy and resources on Property management companies, Apartments & Body Corporates, Hospitality, Healthcare & Rest care Providers, Developers, Education and Religious Institutions, National Retail Chains, Government Bodies and Local Councils.

First impressions are everything, from the painted lines in your carpark to the sparkle of the glass façade, which portray the values you represent to your residents, clients, guests or tenants. Our Health & Safety Vison – “Prevention is our cure”. Our commitment to health & safety is driven from the top, PJF has partnered with a renowned national consultancy firm to assist in the delivery of Workplace Health, Safety & Wellness to our painting services. To minimizing risk and to ensure a safe and healthy work environment, PJF Services take the following actions:
- Maintain and continually improve our Health, Safety & Environmental Management System
- Proactively identify hazards and unsafe behaviours and take all steps to manage these to as low as reasonably practicable
- Set targets for improvement and measure, appraise and report on our performance
- Assess and recognize the health and safety performance of the employees and contractors
- Consult and actively promote participation with the employees and contractors to ensure they have the training, skills, knowledge and resources to maintain a healthy and safe workplace
- Accurately report and learn from our incidents
- Support the safe and early return to work of injured employees
- Design, construct, operate and maintain our assets so that they safeguard people and property
- Require our contractors to demonstrate the same commitment to achieving excellence in health & safety performance
- Comply with relevant legislations, codes of practices (COPS) and industry standards
What we actually do
Our belief in the continual improvement of our systems and processes, assists us in meeting our health & safety objectives. Health and safety is a standard item on the agenda for weekly operational and monthly management meetings
Weekly toolbox meetings are held at each site to discuss any health and safety issues, site-specific hazards, etc. Staff access an electronic check list to assist in maintaining a safe site. Health and safety training requirements are identified and reviewed in each employee’s annual performance review. This ensures that training and qualifications (First Aid, SiteSafe, EWP, Harness Training, etc) are kept current and relevant to job (and client) requirements. Our health & safety manual policy is audited annually with specific items such as fire evacuation practice audited every 2 months and hazard identification daily. We pride ourselves on being safe painting contractors – and protecting clients, employees and the good people using the buildings we work on.
You’ll notice we’ve spent quite a lot of time explaining this – and that’s because it is integral to our business, from our painting services to our comprehensive plans, and are every bit as important as we make it sound. Every one of our employees or contractors has the right to go home each night to his or her family.

Our process is simple – we visit the site to measure and scope based on your requirements. It’s at this point we will recommend products or methods that we think can make a valuable contribution to your investment or the finished project. We at PJF regard ourselves as ‘disruptors’ in the market – we will challenge the norm, stretch the traditional and offer methods that keep us safer and save you money. We often get asked ‘what paint do you use?’ Resene & Dulux are our key decorative brands and Altex Coatings, International Coatings, Zone Architectural are our protective coatings suppliers.
When we specify a system we only use manufacturers whose values for quality align with our own. More often than not we directly engage our suppliers on site to provide a coatings specification tailored to your site. PJF are a partner in the Resene Eco Decorator programme which recognizes environmentally responsible, quality focused painting contractors.

Other services we do are detailed in other parts of this site, you will see with some more research that we have a dedicated commercial cleaning operation that takes care of all exterior building cleaning, window cleaning, graffiti removal and associated services for ongoing property care. We also have a pest Control division that specialises in bird repellent systems. And we have the gear to do it, investment in our very own 28m boom lift truck gets us places few others can go.
Property Care Plans are an essential tool in any successful property maintenance programme. We taylor these to your specific needs and can provide you with any time frame you like – be it 12 months or 10 years plus, our plans include a budget forecast so you can include in your annual planning. Synonymous with our make it easy values, we like you to commit to 12 months at a time only (more if you wish) but that way you are free to shuffle things around if circumstances change – as they do from time to time.
